Knightsbridge was originally a small hamlet outside the City of London, between Chelsea and Kensington and is home to many of the world’s most expensive shops, including the department stores of Harrods, which was recently purchased from Mohammed Al Fayed by the Qatari royal family, and Harvey Nichols. The district also has banks that cater for rich individuals, such as Coutts, the bankers for the Queen. Many British and international fashion houses are found here, such as London-based shoe designers Jimmy Choo, two Prada stores, Louis Vuitton and Roberto Cavalli, to name a few.
Despite its location at the heart of Central London, and the buildings for which Knightsbridge is known, it is still a leafy district and just as popular as a residential location. It stands out as being an exceptionally expensive one, home to a selection of the world’s richest people. Such exclusivity leads to some of the highest property prices in the world. In 2006 a four-bedroom apartment there sold for over £25 million. As well as its impressive residences and its upmarket retail outlets, Knightsbridge is now benefiting from top-of-the-range office space. Recently, many luxury office buildings have sprung up here, such as 64 Knightsbridge, which contains luxury serviced offices with a designer interior and ‘’breathtaking modern artworks”.
