The Coca-Cola company has used an office move as an excuse to entirely redesign its workplace interiors. 

Having been based for the last 15 years in Hammersmith, Coca-Cola has now relocated to Wimpole Street in central London. The new office space, which is housed in a building dating from the 1920s, appears as part workspace and part funky museum dedicated to the unique brand. 

The architects MoreySmith were commissioned to transform the building, which includes a significant extension dating from the 1980s, and comprises a total space of nearly 650,000 square feet. 

The building’s design theme is of course the signature red colour, while collections of Coke-bottle lights hang from the ceiling as a fun statement, and retro signage adorns the walls throughout. There is certainly no doubting who the occupier of this building is!

The space extends over four floors, and includes the usual work areas, hot-desking facilities, and meeting rooms, but with lots of open-plan design. In addition, there is, naturally, a café but also a rooftop terrace, full of curved lines, plants and shrubs, and created in materials such as glass, metal and wood, with seating areas for the staff to relax and take in some fresh(ish!) air. The roof space is also put to good environmental use with panels installed to generate electricity for the building. 

At some places in the building it feels more like a gallery than a headquarters, with a custom-made Acrylicize LED screen featuring almost 5,000 recycled bottles – naturally, Coca-Cola ones. 

Continuing on this theme is the installation of around 30,000 transparent cubes suspended in the centre of the building, almost four feet high, being the creation of British designer Stuart Haygarth.
