Global social media juggernaut Facebook has finalised a deal with Kings Cross Central Limited Partnership (KCCLP) to take up 600,000 sq ft of the newly-developed scheme at the site, where it joins other prestigious tech companies Google and YouTube.
The new space will be comprised of three buildings – two 12-storey blocks and a third building with a terrace on the fifth floor and space for a rooftop park – and will be used as a hub to focus on detecting and dealing with ‘harmful content’ on the Facebook site itself, and the future integration of new tech and advancements – including artificial intelligence – into the platform.
The deal marks yet another significant achievement for London as it continues to become established as a global tech capital.
Steve Hatch, Facebook’s managing director for Northern Europe, says: “The UK is one of the best places in the world to be a technology company and we’re investing here for the long term. Many of Facebook’s most significant global products, from Workplace to social VR applications for Oculus, were developed right here in London, now our biggest engineering base outside the US… By the end of the year we’ll employ more than 2,300 people in the UK and everyday we’re helping over four million UK businesses to grow.
